Number Portability in Telecom : India

Atlast the long awaited Mobile number portability has hit india. Yesterday the facility was launched in Haryana by caretaker telecom minister Mr.Kapil Sibal.

What does this number portability mean to users and investors:

To Mobile phone users:

(1) Those who want to switch to some other mobile phone operator either due to better service or facility etc can now change the operator without the necessity to change his/her mobile number.

(2) Instead of changing mobile numbers, you can retain your number and keep switching the operator.

(3) This will make these Telephone operators / service providers to provide the best customer service. Otherwise the client will walk away.

To Investors:
(1) Those phone companies which provided sub-standard services are likely to lose customers at a much higher rate.
(2) Telephone companies which keep innovating with new products, technology etc and have the passion and dedication to excel would keep gaining more and more customers.
(4) The concept of selling more phone connections/sim card will start wanning and the importance of retaining customers will come into focus.
(4) A recent survey reveled that Reliance communication is likely to lose more subscribers. Four out of five customers are likely to walk away to better service providers like Bharti, BSNL etc.

Atlast the customer will be the king and those companies which treat such customers as kings will remain the Emperor.
